The play, The Disaster of Hamlet The Knight in shining armor of Denmark, follows the story of Hamlet shortly after his beloved father’s murder. Hamlet learns that Claudius, his stepfather and uncle, diseased his brother and the ghosting of his father wants his death to be avenged. Claudius uses Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, Polonius, and Polonius’s daughter Ophelia to spy on the young knight in shining armor. This caused Hamlet to lose his trust in his lover, Ophelia, and pretends to be insane to throw the agents off his plan to murder his uncle and the new king. Hamlet accidentally murders Polonius during his first attempt to kill Claudius leading to Ophelia to become angry herself. Ophelai is seen as “a cult determine embodying their particular turbulent expectations, ” (Romanska 485). The value of Ophelia’s madness should be to signify her losing a pair of the most important guys in her life, Polonius and Hamlet. It is very clear that Ophelia is grieving over the loss of life of her father, Polonius, when Horatio says “She speaks a lot of her dad, says she hears” (Shakespeare IV 4-5), but another cause of Ophelia’s madness can be due to her failed relationship with Hamlet as well.
Evidence suggesting that she is just mourning her father is apparent in lines by her various songs and prove the girl with grieving above her father like in the lines, “His beard as white since snow” (Shakespeare IV 190-191). This collection references her father as they was an old man also because of this depth it implies that Polonius’s loss of life has taken its cost on Ophelia’s psyche causing her to sing bitter songs. You will discover further references to Ophelia’s father, just like “I would give you some violets, nonetheless they withered most when my dad died, inch show Ophelia’s shattered state of mind, as the girl with constantly fixating on the fatality of Polonius, so much that everything will remind her of his passing (Shakespeare IV 180-181). Ophelia’s madness is overtaking her so much so that she would not even acknowledge whom she is talking to like her buddy, Laertes. Polonius was such a vital estimate her life, she is crazy beyond help and thus will not recognize her own brother nor anybody else she talks to.
However , the sex references in Ophelia’s tracks account for her obsession with all the now angry Hamlet, such as “promising his love” to her earlier in the play after which being scorned, she is doubly heartbroken simply by his deficiency alongside the death of her dad. With lines like “Young men can do’t in the event they come to’t” might represent an oblique reference to a promiscuous guy who guarantees love although backs out after a short time (Shakespeare IV 59-60). The line right after is, “You promised me personally to wed” which might state Hamlet to become a cause of her deteriorating mental state (Shakespeare IV 62-64). Although man inside the song has promised the speaker that they can soon get married to, he has left her pertaining to no obvious reason and like Hamlet’s alleged statements of love and marriage to Ophelia, in addition has Hamlet busted those promises for factors unknown to Ophelia. It is likely that Ophelia fixated upon Hamlet’s oath breaking so much that in not really requiting her love, Hamlet had damaged both her heart and her poor mind. Ophelia exists as a tragic character in Hamlet and the one that is totally pitiable because of unfortunate instances that this lady has been put through.
