In accordance to Dougherty, it is generally accepted that death may be the “indefinite object” (Dougherty) of “The Land of the House of Usher” but since we take a moment to read the poem that rests inside the text, we may discover “evidence of a even more culturally and historically particular source for Usher’s terror” (Dougherty).
